Aryanisation économique et spoliations en Isère, 1940-1944 – Tal Bruttmann – 1996

Contains a detailed account of the Aryanization process in Isère. According to the census of June 1941, the region included 728 non-merchant and 190 merchant Jews. 170 Jewish businesses were identified, but only 71 had their head offices in Isère. 35 Jewish-owned real estate properties were listed in the files of the Commissariat Général des Questions Juives. In addition, 13 files related to personal Jewish assets. As for the exclusion of Jews from professional life in Isère, information is defective. Only 20 Jewish physicians and 18 Jews in other medical professions are mentioned, as well as profession of some Jewish refugees. Contends that the Italian occupation did not affect the Aryanization, which was carried out by French authorities. Among the Jews rounded up in 1942-43, before the arrival of the Germans, there were no business owners or owners of property. The German occupation also did not affect the Aryzanization, since businesses, properties, and assets no longer belonged to the Jews. By the liberation, in September 1944, only 40% of the Aryanization files had been completed. 80% of the despoiled businesses were returned to their previous owners.
